Tommy Chong - Up In Smoke
Show Notes for Episode 80-Tommy Chong
Tommy Chong Canadian-American actor stand up comedian, musician, director, entrepreneur, husband, and father, joins us to talk about his storied career. Accomplishing more in one lifetime than many can ever hope to achieve in 3. Furthermore, he has done so with style and grace.
I had no idea he jammed with Jimi Hendrix. Didn’t know he toured with the Jackson 5. Unaware that he had been signed to Motown. Young me grew up watching his films in basements all over my hometown, avoiding parents and the authorities from certain punishment and prosecution.
As a fellow musician, I felt that we spoke the same language. As fellow spiritual being living a human experience, I appreciated his wisdom and genuine kindness.
Tommy Chong is 83 years young, and has remained relevant after several generations. After enjoying a successful career as one half of the stoner comedy franchise Cheech and Chong. He was introduced to millenials as Leo on That 70’s Show. And of course he is slated to reprise his role on the upcoming Netflix production of That 90’s Show.
My favorite all time movie of his, no question is Nice Dreams. An ice cream truck dispenses goofy good humor when it’s manned by Cheech and Chong in this outrageous comedy.
Another favorite of mine is their 1978 film Up In Smoke. The classic pothead comedy that started it all for renowned dopers Cheech & Chong, who spend the whole film driving their van, skirting run-ins with the law, and pursuing their quest for the perfect joint.
It’s time to light it up and get Chinese eyes man
